Now this is where it gets interesting. Apparently Winn and Sims underestimate my ability to track all users on my servers, including them (you would think they would realize this after I posted this, but ok).

Now, let's resolve the www.winnsims.com IP address:

Address: 66.121.62.50
Notice that the IP address for their website is the same as the user that posted the comments. Knowing that their server is a SuSE Linux machine that is physically located in their office, and also acts as their network gateway for their NAT, that means that whoever posted those comments was physically located within the Winn and Sims office.
It makes me wonder if this letter was actually written by Winn and Sims, then mailed to themselves to try and make me look bad to my attorney since the general tone and verbiage is similar. I think it would be unlikely, but everything about this seems like it should be unlikely as well. Just makes me wonder.

Thanks for this site, Shawn. Winn and Sims filed a law suit against me on a disputed and unverified debt. I have had the pleasure of witnessing their tactics and learning a great deal about the legal system that allows corporations like Winn and Sims to apparently thrive. Ah, but my battle must be fought. Wish me luck.

I just recieved an (automated) call from 714-388-3080, telling me to call Don Metz (?) at the Law Offices of Winn & Sims. Erm, I'm in Utah. And I don't feel like making a long-distance call to hear about somone suing me... if they even have the right number. Guess they'll have to call me back IN PERSON if they want to speak with me. Great site, by the way, thanks for the info.

I think its great that you beat them at their own game...the only shame is that imagine the countless people without the knowledge or resources you have at your disposal who they've been able to victimize.
Only think I would have done is gotten a little extra green off of them for your efforts...hell the interest off the $7 grand at least...
I just consulted with client today who was recently served with a lawsuit for a debt that dates back to 1996. Huh? The statute of limitations for breach of written contract is four years. I smell a lawsuit under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act if they don't dismiss this lawsuit very soon.
Not sure how exactly I've found this again, but I'm glad this is still standing ... like a pillar of truth :)

Yeah, Winn and Sims illegally harrassed me for months. By law if a debt-collection agency is told to stop calling a telephone number, the agency must stop calling. But Winn and Sims kept calling every day, no matter what, and their reps insisted that they'd keep calling until they got their money.
But this really isn't a David and Goliath story here--it's more of a David vs. David story, except one David has a slingshot (a telephone) and the other has a laser-guided missile (the Internet).

A nice 20 minute read about the pitfalls of the justice system - every court case I read about is always entertaining it seems...
FYI, anyone with a slight knowledge of the internet is familiar with IP impersonation. I would venture to say anyone wanting to leave anonymous comments (and leave them that way) would likely impersonate another IP, and what better one than the company you are in a protracted court battle with, Winn and Simms - not only leaving their tracks covered but giving you another set of tracks to follow in the process. Just a little food for thought.

money orders to pay off a debt I'm not personally responsible for.
I turned the fake money orders over to the postmaster at the
Spurgeon Post Office in Santa Ana, California.
My theory is they tried to trick me into committing fraud in an
attempt to blackmail me into paying a debt I personally dont owe.
This law firm has a history of crookedness.
CA Atty General Jerry Brown's office is putting together a lawsuit on this firm.
A Winn Sims collector said that failure to pay a debt "is like stealing".
Years later and this post is still popular and I laugh every time I do read it.
